April 2024 Updates

The updates for April are available and here is a quick overview:

  • 07 Swivel hiding the sabre to Point to the trousers with the sabre: For many beginning sabre students, this is a challenging technique. So you want to go slow at first and only as you improve go into a deeper stance.
  • Sabre Applications – Swivel and chop 01: In the form, we turn 180° to perform this technique. It should be no surprise we do this also in the application. In this video I go into detail on how to apply it.
  • Q&A 43 – Can we learn from other styles of Tai Chi Chuan? A question I recently received and answer with some nuance here.
  • Live Training Recording March and April 2024: Not one but two recordings of the live training sessions. These sessions are open to Premium and VIP members and I very much recommend them. You can ask direct questions and I can both show the answers but also guide you through them. Or you show something you’re struggling with and I offer instant feedback and corrections.

January 2024 Updates

I posted the updates two weeks ago, but then fell sick with severe pneumonia and forgot to post this update. I guess that’s what 40°C fever does to your brain… All healed up now, so here are the updates for January 2024:

  • Sabre form – Hang the golden bell on the left to Swivel and tease the genitals: We get to one of the challenges in the form: pivoting 180° not once but twice in a row. And in two different ways to boot. This is one of the key features in all our forms and has specific tactical applications each time.
  • Sabre Applications – Withdraw to divert with the sabre to Pierce the heart 01: There are several ways to do the first part of this application. In this video, I explain the first way in detail.
  • Live Training Recording – January 2024: I got some more great questions during the live training and you can check the entire session out now if you couldn’t attend.
  • Q&A 40 – Mistakes intermediate students make: So you’ve been training for a little while; what should you avoid when it comes to intermediate student mistakes? You are unlikely to make the same ones as when you started, so here I cover some things to pay attention to.

December 2023 Updates

These are a bit late due to technical problems, but here are the new videos that are available as of December 2023

  • Sabre form – 03 Picking a star on the left to Pierce the heart: This is a fundamental sequence in the sabre form and I’ll cover the applications in detail in the following months. One of the reasons it is fundamental is the footwork demonstrates crucial aspects of using weapons.
  • Sabre applications: Picking a star on the left 01: This video is longer than usual, 15 minutes. I wanted to go into more detail to explain several aspects of the application, why they matter so much and their relation with the form.
  • Q&A 39 – “Dim Mak aka “Death Touch”? There is much mythology surrounding this topic, including in the Tai Chi Chuan world. Some of it is promoted by bad-faith actors, others are delusional. I share my thoughts and experience on this in the video.

September 2023 Updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available as of September 2023:

    • Long Form: “26 Turn body and swing fist to Completion style”: With this video, we get to the end of the Long Form. The whole series goes into detail on how to learn the form at the beginner level. In future videos, I’ll show more advanced versions, but as of next month, we’ll start with the saber form.
    • Self-Defense – Golden cockerel stands on one leg to Step back and repulse monkey: This application starts with an upward deflection, which we don’t often use. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have value as it can be practical in a few specific situations.
    • Q&A 37 – Why such an emphasis on details in the forms: There are many misunderstandings about the intricacies of the form and why we focus on perhaps seemingly small details. But there are reasons for that and I explain some of them now.
