July 2025 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for July 2025:

Sword form – 05 Turn back and stab to Point to the trousers with the sword: Only one video this month but it shows three different techniques. I’ve found that students struggle with these at first, especially Hanging the golden bell upside down. So I added several repetitions in multiple angles to give lots of detail. I advise spending a fair bit of time training this part. It will make the rest a bit easier.
Q&A 54 – How to imitate your teacher: It is often said you should “imitate your teacher” as a beginning student. In this video, I offer some nuances as to what that means.

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for June 2025:

Sword form – 03 Spreading the sword style to Intercepting the sword style: Now we start the form proper. First by taking the sword in our weapon hand and then opening with the first cuts.
Sword form – 04 Rhinoceros watching the moon to Swivel and dot: Unlike the sabre form, the sword form is immediately physically challenging. In this video I show how to “watch the moon” at beginner and advanced level.
Q&A 53 – Are seminars worth it? A fair question and it deserves a detailed answer.

24 Sabre form – Swivel and chop to Pierce the heart and 25 Sabre form – Picking a star on the left to Finishing style: With these videos, we have reached the end of the Sabre form instructional videos. You now have everything you need to practice the form from start to finish. There is still more to come, but now you just have to practice.
Q&A 52 – You just learned the sabre form, now what? Some tips on what to do right after you finish learning the sabre form. That way, you make rapid progress and can move beyond the beginner stage of skill.

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for December 2024:

18 Sabre form – Swivel and chop to Sweeping a thousand soldiers. A small step forward in the form, but some detail work might surprise you in how difficult it is to get right (hint: alignment…)
Sabre drills: 06 – Swivel hiding sabre – Manipulation details and 07 Retrieving the moon from the sea The first shows some details on how to use the wrist and the second can be done as a fast-paced drill to quickly get many reps in. I show two variations.
Q&A 49 – Which hand forms to focus on and why? The question was asked to clear up some confusion as to how our hand forms work, what you should focus on and how.

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for October and November 2024:

16 Sabre form – Coiled dragon to Lying fish style and 17 Sabre form – Cloud sabre and hiding the sabre to Pierce the heart Now we get to a dynamic part of the form. It can look overwhelming at first, but I break things in detail and there is actually a lot of repetition of previously learned techniques.
Sabre applications: Searching the Sea 01 and Coiled dragon 01 Two applications that are best learned against a spear, so you immediately see the relation with the form.
Q&A 47 – What is “Zhen Chuan”? and Q&A 48 – What is “Song”? An explanation of some more Chinese concepts and terminology.
Live training recording October 2024 Eric graciously allowed me to record our session in which I go into detail on some corrections for the long form.
