March 2025 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for March 2025:

  • 23 Sabre form – Cloud dragon playing in the water: We are closing in on the end, and this is perhaps one of the most challenging techniques of the form. So I made a separate video for it and advise all students to practice a lot.
  • Sabre Drills 08 – Hanging the golden bell on the left – Climb the mountain to look into the distance – Flying oblique style: This drill combines rotations to both sides along with a 180° turn. Many students have difficulty doing these movements at first, and this drill is meant to help you quickly get a lot of practice in.
  • Q&A 51 – #1 tip for beginners when learning the hand form? This is a question I often get from beginners. In this video, I explain the best thing you can do to advance more quickly, with some caveats…

June 2024 Updates

The updates for June have been available for a few days now. Here is a quick overview:

  • 10 – Swivel hiding the sabre to Taking off the boots when drunk: This sequence offers both something new and something already learned, though with a slight variation.
  • Sabre Drills – Withdraw to divert with the sabre to Pierce the heart 01 and 02: These solo drills allow you to quickly get in lots of repetitions for the specific applications of these techniques. The first drill teaches the basics and the second is a bit more challenging.
  • Q&A 45 – How to make the form your own? The head instructor once told me you’re supposed to make the form your own. In this video, I go into more detail as to what that means and how to do it.
  • Live Training Recording – June 2024: These sessions are open to Premium and VIP members and I very much recommend them. You can ask direct questions and I can both show the answers but also guide you through them. Or you show something you’re struggling with and I offer instant feedback and corrections.

November 2023 Updates

These are a bit late due to technical problems, but here are the new videos that are available as of November 2023

  • Live Training Recording – November 2023: This was requested by one of the Premium members as not everybody can join the live training sessions due to time zone differences (we have members on almost every continent…) The caveat is this: not every Premium or VIP member wants to be recorded and I will always respect their privacy. So depending on who attends, there will be a recording. That said, I very much recommend trying to join them. It creates the opportunity to ask me direct questions and get immediate feedback. As we are both on camera at the same time, we can instantly show what we mean instead of having to interpret things by writing it down, which is always much harder.
  • Sabre Form: “02 Separating the sabre to Dodge and display the sabre”: We now get into the first movements of the form where the assumption is that the opponent is also armed. The weapon has been drawn and you start using it as such. This application also demonstrates one of the particularities of our style in the use of the empty hand.
  • Sabre applications: Dodge and display the sabre 01: This application has a specific misunderstanding built-in. In this video, I clarify how to avoid falling into that trap.
  • Q&A 38 – Which books on Tai Chi Chuan should you read? This is a good question as there are several books available on our style. I give some context on these and explain the best reading order for students. You can find direct links here on the resources page.

August 2023 Updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available as of August 2023:

    • Long Form: “25 Snake creeps down to Slap the face”: Now we come to the last long section that this easy to follow. It is a big chunk you already learned in the short form, with one small change at the end. In the next video, we will cover the final part of the long form and close it off.
    • Self-Defense – As if shutting a door 02: More detail on this application and a look at how this is performed at varying stages of experience and training.
    • Q&A 36 – Mistakes to avoid for long-term success in training?: If you started with this program a few years ago, it’s possible you’re getting into a slump: progress seems slow or non-existent. This is where many students make a series of mistakes that hinder their long-term success in this style. In this video, I talk about the most common errors to avoid.

June 2023 Updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available as of June 2023:

  • Long Form: “23 Slap the face to Brush knee twist step” I showed a smaller section this time because many students struggle in the beginning to differentiate between Double hand sweep and Single hand sweep lotus leg. So instead of rushing through it, I spent some time showing more detail on Single hand sweep.
  • Self-Defense – Grasping bird’s tail close-range drill: We typically start practicing self-defense techniques under idealized conditions: you get to see the attack coming and have ample time to react. That is fine for learning the basic technique but far removed from the realities of violence, which often mean less-than-ideal conditions and close-range attacks. So in this drill, we add some pressure by using continuous attacks from closer by.
  • Q&A 34 – Train as if submerged in water: I often use this analogy to improve the body mechanics when training the forms. In this video, I explain in-depth what this means.
