March 2025 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for March 2025:

  • 23 Sabre form – Cloud dragon playing in the water: We are closing in on the end, and this is perhaps one of the most challenging techniques of the form. So I made a separate video for it and advise all students to practice a lot.
  • Sabre Drills 08 – Hanging the golden bell on the left – Climb the mountain to look into the distance – Flying oblique style: This drill combines rotations to both sides along with a 180° turn. Many students have difficulty doing these movements at first, and this drill is meant to help you quickly get a lot of practice in.
  • Q&A 51 – #1 tip for beginners when learning the hand form? This is a question I often get from beginners. In this video, I explain the best thing you can do to advance more quickly, with some caveats…

January and February 2025 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for January and February 2025:

  • Sabre form: To compensate for the delay, we make a big jump in the form:
    • 19 Sabre form – Picking a star on the left to Returning horse carrying bell
    • 20 Sabre form – Embracing the moon to Rowing the boat with the current
    • 21 Sabre form – Flying oblique style to Sweeping a thousand soldiers
    • 22 Sabre form – Shooting star chasing the moon to Chop the tiger
  • Sabre Applications – Hanging the golden bell on the left to Retrieving the moon fro mthe sea 01. I show two variations of this technique. One that closely follows the form, the other more adapted to specific circumstances.
  • Q&A 50 – Stilness defeats motion. There are many sayings and proverbs in Tai Chi Chuan. In this video I explain the nuances of “Stillness defeats motion.”

December 2024 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for December 2024:

  • 18 Sabre form – Swivel and chop to Sweeping a thousand soldiers. A small step forward in the form, but some detail work might surprise you in how difficult it is to get right (hint: alignment…)
  • Sabre drills: 06 – Swivel hiding sabre – Manipulation details and 07 Retrieving the moon from the sea The first shows some details on how to use the wrist and the second can be done as a fast-paced drill to quickly get many reps in. I show two variations.
  • Q&A 49 – Which hand forms to focus on and why? The question was asked to clear up some confusion as to how our hand forms work, what you should focus on and how.

October – November 2024 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available for October and November 2024:

  • 16 Sabre form – Coiled dragon to Lying fish style and 17 Sabre form – Cloud sabre and hiding the sabre to Pierce the heart Now we get to a dynamic part of the form. It can look overwhelming at first, but I break things in detail and there is actually a lot of repetition of previously learned techniques.
  • Sabre applications: Searching the Sea 01 and Coiled dragon 01 Two applications that are best learned against a spear, so you immediately see the relation with the form.
  • Q&A 47 – What is “Zhen Chuan”? and Q&A 48 – What is “Song”? An explanation of some more Chinese concepts and terminology.
  • Live training recording October 2024 Eric graciously allowed me to record our session in which I go into detail on some corrections for the long form.

  • Sabre Applications – Swivel and tease the genitals 01: Many students find this technique confusing when they first learn the form. This application makes things immediately clear.
  • Q&A 46 – How to do maintenance on swords and sabres: Especially if you buy a good, but more expensive, sword or sabre, you want to take good care of it. In this video, I explain how to do so.
