April 2022 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that will be available as of April 2022:

  • Long form. We continue with Fist under elbow to the Step back and repulse monkey repetitions. This sequence again combines new techniques and elements of what you already learned in the short form.
  • Self-Defense. “Step back to repulse the monkey 03.” We already covered the basic sweep technique in the previous video. This time, we look at how it can be applied to both sides of the entry, depending on how the attacker comes at you.
  • Q&A 20: “What is the “void” and why does it matter?” Tai Chi Chuan theory can be confusing, but here it is not the case. The void is a practical concept that is easy to understand, but takes practice to master.
  • Live Zoom training: for VIP and Premium members will be on Saturday, April 16th at, 6PM Brussels time .

March 2022 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available as of March 2022:

  • Long form. As a step up towards a longer section, we will cover “Seven stars style ” to “Oblique single whip“. This shouldn’t be too difficult if you already followed the instructions for these movements in the short form.
  • Form. “Next level body mechanics: sinking.” This is valid for both short and long form, but I will add the video to the Long form section. It covers the transition from basic body mechanics to intermediate requirements. This video introduces the concept of sinking, which is used throughout all aspects of the art.
  • Exercises 09. “Refining weight transfer: internal resistance.” This exercise will help your body mechanics tremendously when combined with the “sinking” body mechanics explained in the previous bullet point. I only introduce these after students have shown basic mastery of the fundamentals and can consistently do the hand form without major errors.
  • Q&A 18: “Why is there a regular and an advanced short form?” There are some misconceptions about these two short forms and I will try to clarify the issue in this video
  • Live Zoom training: for VIP and Premium members will be on Sunday, March 27th at, 5PM Brussels time .

February 2022 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available as of February of 2022:

  • Long form. We continue from the previous video with “Cross hands” to “Turn body, brush knee twist step“. This introduces the first 180° turn in the form, of which there are several more to come. If you practiced what I showed in the video “Exercises 02 – Turning” then you are fully ready for this. 🙂
  • Q&A 18: “Why do the techniques have such weird names?” This is also a typical “Western” question, but an understandable one. In this video I’ll explain more about Chinese language, culture and how the names come about.
  • Self-Defense: Now that we have covered all basic applications of the short form, it is time to examine applications in more detail. In this next Self-Defense video, I explore how the form expresses a concept for the application, but in real life there are many variations and possibilities.
  • Live Zoom training: for VIP and Premium members will be on Sunday, February 27th at, 5PM Brussels time .

January 2022 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available as of January 2022:

  • Long form. Another big jump forward with a section already covered in the short form and then the first movements to the corner.
  • Q&A 17: “How often should you train to make consistent progress?” This is a typical “Western” question, but I’ll answer it anyway, given that I asked my teacher a very similar one once… :-).
  • Self-Defense: The final two applications for the short form. We’ll take a closer look at “As if shutting a door” and “Embrace tiger, return to mountain.” Now that we have covered them all, I will make a few videos adding nuance and more detail for these.
  • Live Zoom training: for VIP and Premium members will be on Sunday, January 30th at, 5PM Brussels time .

December 2021 updates

Here is an overview of the new videos that are available as of December 2021:

  • Long form. The next section is a mix of old and new. We’ll do the Brush knee twist step repetitions and I’ll show you where what you already learned in the short form can now be applied to this segment.
  • Q&A 16: “What is Wu Wei?” In this Q&A, I’ll dig deeper into this philosophical concept and why it matters for your Tai Chi Chuan training.
  • Self-Defense: Another two applications. We’ll take a closer look at “Stroke the lute” and “Parry and punch.” With these videos, we close in on covering basic applications for the entire short form. With some luck, we will get to the end next month.
  • Live Zoom training: for VIP and Premium members will be on Tuesday, January 4th at, 6PM Brussels time My apologies for the delay in scheduling this. There were some unforseen events these last few weeks that made it difficult to set a date.
