July-August 2024 Updates

Lots of problems to overcome in these last two months:

  • The footage I had shot two months ago was unusable due to being out of focus.
  • Then I was stuck with an ankle injury that prevented me from filming.
  • There was a heatwave and it was too hot to film outside when the light was good.
  • Finally, I get all that behind me, record the new videos and then the platform running everything acts up: The videos are all over the place instead of in their folders and uploading doesn’t seem to work. I checked with a few members and it seems to be good again now, but I still have a ticket running with the helpdesk to sort it all out.

So my apologies for the lateness of the videos. I tried to make it up to you by doing a big push for the sabre form and drills you can use to advance more quickly.

  • For the sabre form, there are four new videos, advancing us in a big leap deeper into the form:
    • 11 Sabre form – Lying fish style to Stab the face
    • 12 Sabre form – Turn around and chop to Searching the sea
    • 13 Sabre form – Retrieving the moon from the sea to Opening the window to watch the moon
    • 14 Sabre form – Seven stars style to Stab the face
  • Three new sabre drills to help you get lots of repetitions in and get skilled more quickly.:
    • Sabre Drills – 03 Basic manipulation
    • Sabre Drills – 04 Dodge and display the sabre to Picking a star on the left
    • Sabre Drills 05 – Picking a star on the left to Advance to tease the genitals

June 2024 Updates

The updates for June have been available for a few days now. Here is a quick overview:

  • 10 – Swivel hiding the sabre to Taking off the boots when drunk: This sequence offers both something new and something already learned, though with a slight variation.
  • Sabre Drills – Withdraw to divert with the sabre to Pierce the heart 01 and 02: These solo drills allow you to quickly get in lots of repetitions for the specific applications of these techniques. The first drill teaches the basics and the second is a bit more challenging.
  • Q&A 45 – How to make the form your own? The head instructor once told me you’re supposed to make the form your own. In this video, I go into more detail as to what that means and how to do it.
  • Live Training Recording – June 2024: These sessions are open to Premium and VIP members and I very much recommend them. You can ask direct questions and I can both show the answers but also guide you through them. Or you show something you’re struggling with and I offer instant feedback and corrections.

May 2024 Updates

The updates for May have been available for over a week now, but here still is a quick overview:

  • 08 – Chop the tiger and 09 – Swallow entering its nest to Pierce the heart: As often in our style, movements in the forms are repeated. But, there can also be a small difference or variation in those repetitions. That is exactly the case here.
  • Q&A 44 – Can you train at any age or fitness level? There is a path to life-long tai chi chuan practice. In this video I give some pointers on how to do that.
  • Live Training Recording – May 2024: These sessions are open to Premium and VIP members and I very much recommend them. April 2024 Updates

The updates for April are available and here is a quick overview:

  • 07 Swivel hiding the sabre to Point to the trousers with the sabre: For many beginning sabre students, this is a challenging technique. So you want to go slow at first and only as you improve go into a deeper stance.
  • Sabre Applications – Swivel and chop 01: In the form, we turn 180° to perform this technique. It should be no surprise we do this also in the application. In this video I go into detail on how to apply it.
  • Q&A 43 – Can we learn from other styles of Tai Chi Chuan? A question I recently received and answer with some nuance here.
  • Live Training Recording March and April 2024: Not one but two recordings of the live training sessions. These sessions are open to Premium and VIP members and I very much recommend them. March 2024 Updates

The updates for March are available and here is a quick overview:

    • 06 Roc spreading its wings to Stab the face: This sequence is not too difficult to learn and works best when practicing in one go. There is a natural flow to it and when you break it down into its components you quickly get the hang of it.
    • Sabre Applications – Hanging the golden bell on the left to Push open the window to watch the moon 01: This application is actually a good preparation for the variation I’ll show next month. 🙂
    • Q&A 42 – Traditional vs. Modern Tai Chi Chuan: The question came to talk about how our style differs from the modern Wushu version of Tai Chi Chuan.
